Welcome to the Fragonard Museum of Fashion and Costume.
After five years of restoration and rehabilitation, the Hôtel Bouchaud de Bussy, located on the former Roman decumanus of the city, reopens its doors in a new light.
Over time, this residence has lived many lives: transformed into a clinic and maternity ward, then into a hotel. Today, this patrician house of Arles welcomes the seventh museum of the Maison Fragonard: the Museum of Fashion and Costume.
The spectacular façade of the townhouse, as well as the entrance vestibule with its French-style “fern” ceiling and the grand staircase, date back to 1720. They were commissioned by the former owner, Antoine Laugier.
In 1732, the Bouchaud de Bussy family acquired the property and made it their main residence until the 20th century. Jean-Baptiste Bouchaud de Bussy, secretary to the king, also owned an important agricultural estate and a remarkable mas in the Camargue.
For the creation of this museum, Maison Fragonard enlisted the interior architects of Studio KO, together with the heritage architecture firm led by Nathalie d’Artigues.
We invite you to step inside and let yourself be surprise.
